History of the Hotel Adler

As early as the 15th century, a "Hennchin the Innkeeper" is mentioned, who ran an inn with its own vineyards and a beer brewing license in his house near the Gerichtshöwel. The "Synodi Geraviane," a church-based assembly that met regularly in Groß-Gerau since 1537, listed the "Kanne" as its meeting place in its accounts. Hennchin's inn and the "Kanne" are undoubtedly the forerunners of today's "Hotel Adler."

On February 4, 1948, innkeeper Philipp Fuchs was granted a license to operate an inn, including the rental of guest rooms, at the Hotel Adler, Groß-Gerau, Frankfurter Straße 11. This marked the beginning of a new era in the history of the oldest inn in the town of Groß-Gerau. In 1953, the establishment was renovated and modernized. That same year, Philipp Fuchs married Wilhelmine Werum, who actively supported him as an experienced landlady. Philipp Fuchs died in December 1976, and Wilhelmine Fuchs in December 2008.

The current business has been run by Egon Werum and his wife Dagmar Werum since 1976. The next generation, sons Christian Werum, Matthias Werum, and Andreas Werum, are also involved in continuing the hospitable tradition in Groß-Gerau.
